Brother Roy Dabbs

Funeral services for Brother Roy Dabbs will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Everett and Dr. Albert “Hack” McMullen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Dabbs, age 66, of Meridian, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016, at his home.

Roy was a graduate of Clarkdale High School. He attended MSU-Meridian and UWA, and received an Associate’s degree from MJC. Roy worked for Winn Dixie for several years until going to work at Hilltop Boys Home. He was director of the Lauderdale County Juvenile Center and was on  the Lauderdale County School Board. He served two terms in the Mississippi House of Representatives and was also a member of the Christian Action Commission for the Mississippi Baptist Convention. For the past twenty-two years, Brother Roy has faithfully served the Lord as a pastor – five years at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and sixteen at Oak Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Sandra; son, Drew (Emily) Dabbs; daughter, Kelly (Allen) Carr; his pride and joy, his eight grandchildren, Micah Carr, Evangeline Dabbs, Elizabeth Carr, Roy A. “Trey” Dabbs III, Rachel Carr, Annabelle Dabbs, Abigail Carr, and Emma Faith Dabbs; sisters, Patsy (Mike) Kynerd, Brenda (Mike) McLaughlin, and Kathryn (Charles) Yokley; brothers, Gene (Betty) Dabbs, Pete (Doris) Dabbs, Hoyle Dabbs, of North Carolina; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews in Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Dabbs and Nancy Dabbs Kennedy and stepfather, Earl Kennedy.

The family requests memorials be made to Gideon’s International or Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Larry Fountain, Videt Carmichael, Tom Butler, A.J. Napp, James Patton, and Mitchell Pierre.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
