Mr. Turnipseed, 69, of the Blackwater Community, died Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Al was a faithful, life-long member of Blackwater Baptist Church, where he served anywhere he was needed. Al was a tried and true farmer; he spent many years working with cattle and row crops. His passion was gardening and spending time on a tractor. He enjoyed tilling the land and spending time outdoors. He worked for nearly 20 years with Meridian Stock Yards. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting deer and squirrel. Al was a member of Blackwater Hunting Club where he made many friendships and hunting stories, while fellowshipping over meals. His most favorite title was Papa to his two grandchildren, whom he thought hung the moon. He enjoyed sharing his love of tractors with Rett and softball with Addi. He gained a son in Kyle and enjoyed spending time both hunting and sharing his wisdom on the farm. Above all he was a loving husband, father, papa, and friend to many.
Al is survived by his wife of over 38 years, Donna Turnipseed; his daughter, Mindi Singley and her husband, Kyle; grandchildren, Addi Singley and Rett Singley; his brother-in-law, Gene McCarty; his nephew, Tommie McCarty; his close cousin, Gloria Ingram; as well as a host of friends and extended family members.
Mr. Turnipseed is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Fair Turnipseed; his sister, Kathy McCarty; and his close uncle, A.C. Hudnall.
Pallbearers will be Billy Holloway, Mickey Hall, Daniel Burns, Bobby Wilder, Keith Lee, and Roger Cheatham. Honorary Pallbearer will be Beau Jack Vaughn.
The Turnipseed Family requests memorials be made as donations to Blackwater Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in lieu of flowers.
The Turnipseed Family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Dulaney and staff at Baptist Anderson Cancer Center for their love and exceptional care during Al’s cancer battle.
Family and friends are encouraged to express online condolences at robertbarhamffh.com.
The Turnipseed Family will receive guests from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the funeral home.
