Alice Edweena Jones Motley

“Edweena” Jones Motley passed away on January 9, 2018, at 8:30 pm. She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Motley was known as Edweena to her friends who loved, respected, and valued her because of her kind ways and sweet countenance. People were drawn to her, and she welcomed everyone to her home. Edweena was a good listener for others, always ready with a warm cup of coffee, and an endearing heart; she was compassionate and generous with friends, family, and her church. Edweena was born in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, on January 19, 1928.

Edweena was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Horace Jones and Alice Hansel Jones; her husband, Ralph Motley; her brothers, Glen Jones, Buddy Jones, and Ed Jones; and her son Michael Motley.

She is survived by her loving sister, Nina Watts (Sonny Watts); daughter, Brenda Abbott; daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Harrell and her husband, Mike Harrell; and daughter, Jo Ellen Reeves.  She had eight grandchildren whom she cherished, Heath Abbott, Hope Abbott Phillips, Timothy Barker, Howard "Bubba" Reeves, Lorrie Reeves Clark, Jamie Motley Hanley, Leah Motley Noggle, and Natalie Motley Blackburn.

The family wishes to express their gratefulness for the Lord’s giving of Edweena to them, and although they will miss her, they are comforted in the assurance that she is with the Lord and surrounded by those who have gone before her to heaven.

Graveside services for Mrs. Edweena Jones Motley will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery, with Bro. James Clark officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a favorite charity.
