Ann Mangum Maynor, 86, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Born on November 28, 1939, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Kathryn and W.D. Mangum.
Ann graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1957 and went on to attend Belhaven College, where she earned her Elementary Education Degree in 1961. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Tom C. Maynor.
A gifted and devoted educator, Ann began her teaching career in the Jackson Public School System at Watkins Elementary. In 1968, she and Tom moved to Meridian, where she continued her passion for teaching in the Meridian Public School System until her retirement. She was especially cherished for her work in the Talented & Gifted (TAG) program, where she inspired and nurtured countless students.
Ann was a dedicated advocate for education and served for many years as President of the Meridian Public Schools PTA. During a pivotal time of school desegregation, she was a steadfast and compassionate supporter of students, families, and educators. Even after retiring from the classroom, Ann remained committed to education, working part-time at the Meridian Public Schools Central Office and later teaching at the Trinity Dyslexia Center, where her love for children continued to shine.
Her spirit of service extended deeply into the community. Ann was an original member of the Hope Village Guild and played a vital role in founding the Hope Village Thrift Store, which she managed for five years. She also volunteered for a decade at Anderson's Hospital, where she and her husband helped establish the Tom C. Maynor Rehabilitation Center and led a stroke support group.
A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Meridian, Ann was actively involved in many aspects of church life. She taught in the children's ministry, sang in the choir, and served as President of Women in Ministry. She was also a member of the Fortnightly Club, the Junior Auxiliary, and the JA Chorus.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Tom C. Maynor.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Hoffmann; her children, David T. Maynor, Carroll Ann Maynor, John W. Maynor (Cecilie), Alice Derrick (Greg), and Labena Warren; and her cherished grandchildren, Will Maynor, Rebecca Thomas (McRae), Ami Powell (Cody), Hannah Derrick, Natalie DeYoung (Carsson), Thomas Derrick, Ana Maynor, Maya Maynor, Elias Maynor, and Kaja Maynor.
The Maynor family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses at Brookdale Senior Living for their loving care, devotion, and support.
There will be a memorial celebration of life at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, Meridian, MS. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
