Annie Burnett Harris, age 97, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in DeKalb with her family by her side.

Mrs. Harris was a native of Kemper County and attended Lynville Methodist Church where she accepted her faith in Christ at the age of 11. She graduated from Lynville High School, then moved to Meridian where she began working for her family’s business in retail grocery. She married the love of her life on January 13, 1945, James L. Harris. She worked for many years with the Meridian School District until retiring in 1984. She was a longtime active member of Highland Methodist Church for many years where she selflessly helped others and served her Lord and Savior. “Miss Ann”, as she was affectionately known by so many, was loved for many things, especially her cookies and cakes. Through many trials in her life, Annie never lost her faith in God. The Lord’s promises always sustained her regardless of the situation. Her family was her greatest joy and she always put their needs above all else.

She is survived by her sons, Donald Harris and wife, Glenda, and Jerry Harris and wife, Beth; grandchildren, Jennefer May and Jared Harris and wife, Courtney; great-granddaughter, Maggie Grace May; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Harris; parents, Alsey C. Burnett and Jerusha Guinn Burnett; brothers, Burk M. Burnett and Clark B. Burnett; and a sister, Nellie L. Burnett.

Pallbearers will be Bob Dawkins, Richard Jolly, Sid Holston, James Kain, Gary Wilkinson, and Melvin Warren.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Mississippi Care Center of DeKalb, John C. Stennis Hospital and Hospice Compassus.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745 or the American Parkinson Disease Association, www.apdaparkinson.org/ .
