Apphia Guillermin Terry Services for Apphia Guillermin Terry will be held Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverends Joseph Hallman, Jessie Napp and Robert H. Sandifer officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Southern Methodist Cemetery. Apphia Guillermin Terry went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at the age of 87. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, the Rev. Wallace R. Terry Jr., of Bailey, Mississippi. Wife, mother, sister, daughter, teacher, scholar, friend, confidant and counselor, Apphia spent her life in service to God and others, putting their needs above her own, always available to talk, to love and to give of herself, whether to her children or her countless students throughout her 50-plus years in academia and her beloved Bible teaching, which she continued until her recent illness. She was born in Amelia, Ohio, on Sept. 25, 1923, to Larry R. and Apphia Gaskins Guillermin. She spent her formative years in Buffalo, NY, and earned a bachelor's degree in education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. She taught in public and private school, at all levels from youth to adult. She is also survived by her children Cynthia Sandifer and husband, Rev. Robert H. Sandifer, of Millbrook, Ala.; Timothy and wife, Beverly, of Orlando, Fla., Paulette Sigler and husband, Burke, of Marietta, Ga., Apphia Stephens and husband, Brent, of Humble, Texas, Sylvia Stephens and husband, Jeff, of Kingwood, Texas, Wallace R. Terry III and wife, Sara, of Woodstock, Ga., Larry R. Terry of Kingwood, Texas, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, brother A. Pierre Guillermin and wife, Louanne, of Lynchburg, Va., sister Rosalind and husband, Jack Geniesse, of Ocean View, Del. She was indeed a virtuous woman as described in Proverbs 31: "She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her. Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.'" Family and friends may sign online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 5-8 at the funeral home.
