Belinda Joyce French

Memorial Services for Belinda Joyce French will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. French, 64, of Newport, North Carolina, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC.

She was given the gift of 7.5 years of life after receiving a double lung transplant from a generous donor in 2010.

Mrs. French graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and then enjoyed teaching for over 25 years in Mississippi, primarily at West Lauderdale High School.

She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Richard French and his wife, Katie, of Seabrook, Texas, and Heather Allen and her husband, Dr. Lee Allen, of Newport, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Porter Rodgers, Ava French, and Ainsley Allen; her mother, Faye Burton of Oxford; her siblings, Don Burton (Sherry) of Oxford, Dan Burton (Dianne) of Lexa, AR, Beth Gallagher (Bryan) of Jacksonville, AL, and Vanessa Stewart (Squeaky) of Orange Beach, AL; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. French was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” French, and her father, Rev. Charles H. Burton.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute c/o Christian Smith, UAB Department of Medicine, BDB 463, 1808 7th Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35294-0012.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
