Benny Dunn Watts Services for Benny Dunn Watts will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Earl Wheatley officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. After a lengthy illness, Mr. Watts died Monday morning in Anderson Hospital North. Mr. Watts, 82, was a retired CPA having practiced in Meridian for fifty-four years and continued to work part time until the day before entering the hospital. After retiring from private practice he continued to be of assistance to Carolyn Mooney, Lauderdale County Chancery Clerk and Donna Jill Johnson, Circuit Clerk. He also maintained an office in the CPA firm of Kemp, Williams, Steverson and Bernard. A lifelong resident of Meridian, Mr. Watts graduated from Meridian High School in 1949 and received a BBA degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi in 1954. He was a member of the 153rd Unit of the Air National Guard that was activated to full time service during the Korean Conflict in 1951. Mr. Watts was a faithful member of North Park Church and enjoyed fellowship with members of the Christian Home Builders Sunday School Class. He was a founding member of The Lamar School Foundation, having served two terms as President of the Board of Trustees and as Treasurer for many years. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dwight Truhett Watts; sons, Dwayne Watts of Meridian and Carl Watts (Nancy) of Ridgeland, Mississippi; grandchildren, Grace, Caley, and Isaac Watts of Ridgeland and Jenna Watts of Meridian; sister, Jackie George of Bessemer, Alabama; brother, John W. Watts (Ann) of Meridian; nieces, Poky Murphy (Mike), Grace Mitts (Billy) of Meridian; nephews, Tom George of Bessemer, Alabama and David George (Allyson) of Hoover, Alabama, Kenny Watts (Kim) of Meridian, Larry Watts of New Orleans, Louisiana and Johnny Watts of Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Helen Poythress Watts; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Kathryn Watts and brother-in-law, Thomas George. Thanks to the staff of Anderson Cancer Center; fifth floor nursing staff at Anderson North and Dr. William Reid and his staff at Internal Medical Clinic. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donation be made to the American Cancer Society or North Park Building Fund. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Tom George, David George, Kenny Watts, Larry Watts, Johnny Watts, Mike Murphy, Billy Mitts and David Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Emmons, Jim Kellar, Bill Rush, Glennwood Martin, Robert Moore, Dewayne Joyner, Ray Rush, Howard Dubose, Larry Williams and Alston Buntyn.
