Benton Goodman

Benton Goodman passed away June 7, 2021 at the age of 79 years. He pastored churches in Alabama and Mississippi for over 50 years and served as Director of Missions in Lamar County until his retirement. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Alabama Baptist. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Vernon First Baptist Church in Vernon, Alabama with Bro. Brandon Phillips and Bro. Glen Boman officiating. Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m.. at the church. Graveside services will follow on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Meridian, MS. under the direction of Dowdle Funeral Home.

Benton was born on February 25, 1942 to Ernest Goodman and Allie Lucile (Long) Goodman in Snell, MS. He was loved by so many, especially his family. He was a wonderful husband to his wife and a great dad to his children. They shared a lot of laughs and fun times. He was the best "Nuonedaddy" and "A-daddy" to his grandchildren and his joy was his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed a game of golf until his health prevented it.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Goodman, his daughter, Paula Walters (Doyle Pitts), a son, Scott Goodman (Lori), five grandchildren, Jeffrey Rudd (Ashley), Chase Goodman, Bryant Foster (Tessa), Huston Foster and Kristen Rudd (Randy Shuman). Six great-grandchildren, Elliott Rudd, Addi Boone Rudd, Brooks Rudd, Harper Rudd, Anna Grace Grissom and Timber Foster. His brothers Unrue Goodman and Granveil Goodman (Rita), sisters Caren Davis and Kay Shipe, sister-in-law Janie Goodman and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and and a special mother-in-love Pauline Partridge.

Pallbearers will be Tom Younger, Roger Holloway, Michael Pennington, Jeff Davis, David Pitts and Clanton Dubose. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Sr. Adult Sunday School Class at Vernon First Baptist and Chester and Linda Egger.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or place bibles through The Gideons.
