Betty Heard Toney

Betty Heard Toney, 86, of Meridian MS, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday November 25, surrounded by her family.  Betty was born in Macon, MS in 1933 and attended the University of Alabama prior to her marriage to her husband of 51 years, Davis Arthur Toney.

Betty was universally known for her kindness, her beauty, and her wonderful wit. Her laughter was infectious and she would light up any room when she was present. Betty was adventurous, fun loving, a great reader, avid gardener and a world traveller who found joy in her church, bridge friends and her women’s clubs. She was a member of First Christian Church for over 60 years and was a lifetime member of the Meridian Junior Auxiliary.

Betty was a true matriarch, devoted to her husband, her daughters, her grandchildren and her extended family.  She touched many lives as a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a dear friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her children Lynn Toney Gillespie (Dr. Bill Gillespie), Gaye Toney (John Potter, Esq.); grandchildren, Dr. William Gillespie IV (Kathryn), Chandler Gillespie, John Davis Potter; great grandchildren Lillian Gillespie and William Gillespie V.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Davis Arthur Toney, parents Lucille and John Heard, sister Carolyn Heard, and brother Dr. John Heard.

Memorial services for Mrs. Toney will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 11:00, First Christian Church, Meridian, MS.  The Revs. Dr. Mark Benson and Dr. Tom Sykes will officiate.  The Toney family will receive friends prior to the services at the church from 10:00 to 10:45.

Memorial donations to First Christian Church, Meridian, MS are suggested in lieu of flowers.
