Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Burt Jones Sutherland will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home chapel with the family officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Billie Waudine Burt Jones Sutherland, age 88, and longtime resident of Meridian, MS, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.

Billie was born December 5, 1931 to George Warren (G.W.) and Elliott Iona (Onie) Burt, Jr. near Quitman, MS. Billie was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church for many years, and she dearly loved her Sunday School class.  Her longest employments were with Meek Moving and Storage/Allied Van Lines as office manager, and later with Rush Pediatrics (now Meridian Pediatrics) as secretary.

She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Burt Pogue of Collierville, TN; her two daughters, Karen May (Mike) of Brandon, MS, and Elaine Pounds (Barry) of Canton, MS. Grandchildren,  Bryant May (Heather) of Pearl, MS; Melissa May of Brandon, MS; Jeremy Pounds (Nikki) of Walker, LA; Jason (Erica) Pounds of Erin, TN; and Joey (Lindsay) Pounds of Gallatin, TN. Nine great-grandchildren; Cait and Braylon May; Everett, Gregg, Elliott, River, Braden, Allister, and Skylar Pounds.  She is also survived by her late husband Jim's family; stepdaughter, Sharon Johnson (Larry) of Meridian, MS; stepson, Steven Ray Sutherland of Hattiesburg, MS; and step-granddaughter, Laura Sullivan (Steven) of Collinsville, MS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jimmy Wayne Sutherland.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made as donations to Highland Baptist Church Capital Improvements/Long Range Planning Fund - 3400 27th Street - Meridian, MS  39305.

The Sutherland family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm Friday, January 24, 2020 and from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm prior to funeral rights Saturday , January 25, 2020.
