Billy Ray Downey

Services for Billy Ray Downey will be held Thursday July 29, 2010, at 10:00a.m., at Causeyville Baptist Church, with the Reverends Ron Mercer, Bill Webb, and Ryan Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Causeyville Baptist Church cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Downey, age 90, of Causeyville, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Downey was the oldest member of Causeyville Baptist Church, and had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was retired from Downey and Downey Construction, and had also owned and operated Downey's Diner with his brother Edward in Asheville, North Carolina for 25 years. As long as health permitted, Mr. Downey was an active volunteer in community activities, including the Causeyville Community Development Club and Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mattie Downey, a daughter, Barbara Downey, a son, Charles Ray Downey and his wife Donna, all of Causeyville, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Mr. Downey was preceded in death by his parents, John Peyton Downey and Mary Eunice Downey, and two brothers, Edward and James Downey.
