Mr. Watkins, 84, of Meridian, died Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Ochsner Rush Medical Center in Meridian.
Billy served our country in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Enterprise High School. In 1963, he married the love of his life, Glenda Cook. Billy and Glenda made their home in Meridian, where their son Tim was born. Billy worked for Southern Pipe for over 46 years as an inside salesman. He loved his job there, especially his interaction with everyone he encountered. His kind spirit and humble nature made people feel welcome whether on the job or at the ballfield watching his son or grandsons. He was an avid Mississippi State fan, and proudly followed his Bulldogs whenever and wherever they played, watching whatever sport was in season be it Basketball, Baseball, Football, or Women's Softball. His love of sports was evident as he enjoyed watching his grandsons play all of their sports, too. He enjoyed traveling North America with Glenda in his retirement, and more than anything else, he loved his family and spending time with them.
Mr. Billy is survived by his faithful wife of more than 60 years, Glenda Cook Watkins; his son, Tim Watkins (Michelle); and three sports-loving grandsons, Jordan Watkins (Christina), Brady Watkins (OU Student), and Tanner Watkins; as well as a host of extended family members.
Mr. Watkins is preceded in death by numerous relatives including his loving parents; his brother, Virgil Watkins; and sisters, Peggy Watkins Cumberland and Dorothy "Dot" Watkins Jones.
Pallbearers will be Randy Walker, Mickey Watkins, Tim Watkins, Jordan Watkins, Brady Watkins, and Tanner Watkins.
The Watkins Family suggests memorials be made as donations to Midway Baptist Church 4579 Old 8th Street Rd N, Meridian, MS 39307 or to the Mississippi State University Foundation at 600 Russell St, Starkville, MS 39759 in lieu of flowers.
