Graveside services for Billye Gullette Dendy will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery located in Mantee, Mississippi, with Reverend George Vernon Henley officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Dendy, age 92, of Meridian, Mississippi passed away on June 24, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Dendy was a proud graduate of Mississippi State University and served for many years as an educator, both in the public school system and as the founding principal of Lamar School. She influenced many generations of children who went on to become important and productive citizens of Meridian. After retiring from education, she founded and operated a successful real estate business for several years. She was active in community affairs, serving for many years on the Board of King’s Daughters and Sons of Meridian. She was also one of the founders, along with her husband, of Northcrest Baptist Church in Meridian. Mrs. Dendy loved to travel, and particularly, international travel, and gave generously of herself to her community, her grandchildren, and all other members of her family. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II and loved to tell stories about her childhood growing up in Mantee, Mississippi. Mrs. Dendy was also a substantial contributor to the recent business endeavors of the Choctaw Nation in Philadelphia.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Marvin V. Dendy; her father, Vermont Gullette; her mother, Omaree Gullette; her stepfather, Abraham Weinberg of Greenville, Mississippi; her brothers, Oliver Gullette and Robert Weinberg; and her first cousin June Gullette Nolan of Madison, Mississippi.

Survivors include her sons, Patrick Shawn Dendy (Janice) of Brandon, Mississippi and Dennis Michael Dendy (Cheryl) of New Orleans, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Joseph M. Dendy of Brandon, Mississippi, Christopher M. Dendy of New Orleans, Louisiana, Sarah Dendy Long of Houston, Texas, her step-granddaughter, Kimberly Varner (Curt) Langley and their children, Brayden and Julianna of New Albany, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

The family requests memorials be made to: Mantee Baptist Church Building Fund, Mantee, Mississippi; King’s Daughters and Sons Home, Meridian, Mississippi; Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association, Mantee, Mississippi; and Lamar School, Meridian, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Shawn Dendy, Dennis Michael Dendy, Joseph M. Dendy, and Samuel F. Gullette.
