Camille Caroline Clark Emmons Graveside services for Caroline Emmons will be held Friday, May 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Magnolia Cemetery. Doctor Raymond Leake will officiate and Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Emmons, 96, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday at Anderson Hospital. Caroline was born November 4, 1918, in Meridian, the only child of Orville Ernest and Camille McBeath Clark. A native of Meridian, Caroline graduated from Meridian High School in 1936 and completed her first year at Duke University. She then went to the University of Maryland and graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor's of Science in Bacteriology. She obtained her Master's of Science degree from George Washington University in 1941. After graduation, she took a position at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. She worked in the immunology lab preparing anti-serum for the US Army for diseases such as salmonella, cholera, and typhoid. She then worked at the American Can Company in Washington, DC, testing canned food for bacteria. She married James "Billy" Emmons in 1945 in Washington, DC in the Bethlehem Chapel of the National Cathedral. She was a member of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a child, Caroline attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church, although later in life she attended First Baptist Church with her husband. She enjoyed many wonderful trips with her husband and friends, including travels to Europe, China, Korea, and Hawaii, as well as Alaskan, Scandinavian, and Caribbean cruises. She treasured the many summers she spent at the beach house her husband built in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Caroline dearly loved her devoted husband, and lit up every time he walked into the room. She delighted in spending time with her daughters and she was a loving and encouraging grandmother. She was always interested in the lives of those she held dear to her heart. The family deeply appreciates the loving and loyal care provided by Jean Scissom, Geraldine McDonald, and Lorie Mitchell over the past several years. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James William Emmons; daughters, Camille Emmons (Jim) Lane and Rebecca Emmons Hyde; granddaughter, Rebecca Lane (Drew) Hanson; great-grandsons, James Andrew Hanson and John Emmons Hanson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church.
