Charles (Chuck) Willis Atkins passed away November 19, 2012 at the age of 75, ending his battle with Acute Myleogenous Leukemia which he had valiantly waged for over two years. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated with no services. Chuck served in the Navy, and later had a career in law enforcement holding several positions in three western states. An avid reader, he also enjoyed gardening and his dogs, especially Rosie. More than a talented handyman, in years past he built a home, room additions and a barn almost single handedly. In March 2010, Chuck relocated to the Meridian area so his wife could be nearer her family. Survivors are: his wife Lila McGee Atkins, daughter Surrie Atkins, granddaughter Ayana McKnight, step-granddaughter Eryn McKnight, stepdaughters Patricia Bailey, Judy Leggett, Pam Stinnell, Angela Crawford, stepson Elliott Crawford, niece Carrie Bender, and nephew Curt Bender. He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Cunningham Atkins, father Dr. Charles Elmer Atkins, and sister Sarah Margaret Bender. Chuck always maintained a positive attitude, had a disarming demeanor, and cast a long shadow. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched.
