Charles Easom

d. March 29, 2015

Charles Easom Relatives and friends are welcome to attend and share in a celebration of life service for Charles Easom, held Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 5:00pm, in the gym of Clarkdale High School. Reverend Doug Goodman and Reverend Randall Creel will officiate. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Easom, age 75, passed away peacefully March 29 at Andersons Regional Medical Center. Charles was born on July 13, 1939, in Starkville, Mississippi, to Louis and Gladys Easom. He was educated through the Jackson Public School District. Charles and his family traveled extensively during his younger years while his father served in the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He went on to receive his BS and his Master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Easom was a teacher and principal in both Florida and Mississippi until he retired in 2000. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of the students he worked with in both states. His active involvement in the Clarkdale Schools, Lauderdale County School District, and the Clarkdale community leaves a legacy of being remembered as a positive, quick-smiling educator, who was helpful, caring, and easy to be with in all activities. He touched many lives in his educational career and throughout his life. Charles and his wife, Carolyn, enjoyed traveling, both in the United States and abroad. He was an avid reader and learner, and his love of history never wavered. While not an athlete, it brought Charles much joy to watch his grandson, Reagan, grow up to become a baseball player. Charles was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Charles leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Carolyn Cox Easom; his daughter, Caren Philley; his grandson, Reagan; his sister-in-law, Lillian S. Easom. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, cousins, and dear friends. His parents and brother, James Easom, predeceased him. The family would like to say a special "thank you" to the doctors and nurses who have been such a blessing in Charles' life, as well as the compassionate nurses and staff in CCU. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund. Interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson at a later date. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
