Mr. Gunn, 92, of Meridian, died Sunday, May 3, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Duane was a Christian first and foremost. He was a proclaimer of The Gospel, a lover of Scripture and sharing Christ’s Message through stories, racquetball lessons, and everyday life events. An avid racquetball enthusiast, Duane loved teaching the sport and also possessed a vast knowledge for all things racquetball, often sharing the gospel through his lessons. He won his final National Championship at age 71. Educated to become a basketball coach and teacher, he used his gifts to tell of Christ’s redeeming grace. He was a lay minister at their church in Indiana where he served for many years. Upon moving to Mississippi, he became a member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church where he taught Bible studies on Tuesday’s referred to as “The Vine and The Branches.” He often used graph paper to write all his notes, making sure everything was all in perfect square. Duane was also a family man; he and Peggy shared over 62 years of Marriage. He also considered his brothers and sisters in Christ his family; not all family is blood, but through the Blood of Christ, we are all a part of the body.
Mr. Duane is survived by his wife, Peggy Gunn; their children, C. Stephen Gunn (Renee) and Michelle West; grandchildren, Davis Gunn, Joel West, and Andrew Gunn; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mr. Gunn is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith Gunn; his siblings, Eleanor Jarett, Byron “Ben” Gunn, Jane Bloebaum; as well as three infant siblings.
The Gunn Family suggests memorials be made as donations to a Mission Organization of your choice in lieu of flowers.
