Funeral services for Mr. Charles Wayne “Pappy” Morgan will begin at 2:30 PM Sunday, October 8, 2023 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Reverends Doug Goodman, Mike Everette, and Steward McMahan officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Morgan, 80, of Meridian, passed away, Sunday, October 1, 2023 at his home.
Wayne was born February 21, 1943.The eldest of 4 children, he grew up in Meridian’s Tuxedo neighborhood. He was married to his high-school sweetheart, Ann, for 62 years. He and Ann moved to Clarkdale where they became beloved members of the community, and of New Hope Baptist Church, which they joined as members, in 1968. After 2 days in the Navy and being medically discharged, Wayne had a 25-year career at Lockheed Martin. Following an early retirement, he spent his time caring for his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He served with The Clarkdale Water Association, where he formerly served as President. Known to friends and family as “Charlie” or “Wayne,” he was “Pappy” to his grandchildren and their friends. Always kind and gregarious, he never met a stranger and would start a conversation with anyone around. He loved crossword puzzles, coin collecting, his dogs, and his cat, Clementine.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Ann Morgan; children Lisa McMahan (Johnny), Sheila Morgan, and Cynthia Catlett (Justin). Grandchildren, Steward McMahan (Brooke), Kaleb Price, Charlee Zimmermann (Derek), Morgan Partridge, and Matthew Partridge; Great-grandchildren, Kaleigh McMahan, Alyssa McMahan, Zoe Zimmermann, Naomi Zimmermann, Lucy Zimmermann, and Lily Zimmermann. Siblings, Bobby Earl Morgan (Sybil), Dianne Delaney, and Betty Hughes (Steve); sister-in-law, Nancy Reid; and brother-in-law Hugh Craven (Judy), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mr. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents C.V. and Adelle Morgan; grandson, Joshua Price; son-in-law Mike Partridge; and brothers-in-law Don Delaney and Lamar Reid.
Pallbearers will be Steward McMahan, Kaleb Price, Matthew Partridge, Derek Zimmermann, Tyler Hughes, Steve Hughes, Anthony Truhett, Anthony “Tiger” Wilkins with James Martin and the Odd Fellows Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers.
The Morgan family suggests memorials be made as donations to Anderson Regional Medical Center Cancer Benevolence Fund in lieu of flowers.
The Morgan family would like to express special appreciation to Dr. Cassell and the Nursing Staff of Anderson Cancer Center as well as the Doctors and Staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center for their exceptional care.
