Mr. Lang, age 95, of Meridian, passed away February 29, 2016, at Rush Hospital.
Skeeter was a lifelong resident of Meridian and was a 1941 graduate of Meridian High School, where he played football on the MHS Championship team. It was at this time that he met the love of his life, Margaret Maxine Jones. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served during WWII. He was recognized by the Department of Navy for his invention of a trigger snap ring for the 20 m.m. Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun while he was serving on a mine-sweeper off the coast of Russia. After the military, he returned to Meridian and worked for GM&O Railroad for forty-six years. He deeply loved his family, his church and his community and enjoyed dancing with his wife, Maxine. Skeeter taught his family to love God by the example he demonstrated with his own servant’s heart.
He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia (Jim) Autry and Dianne Lang; grandchildren, Bill (Genie) Autry, Paul (Michelle) Autry, Andy Autry, Katie Autry, Teresa Bliss, and Shawn (Rachel) Simmons; thirteen great-grandchildren; and sister, Winifred Middleton.
He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-two years, Maxine; son, Charles Dale Lang; brother, William “Doc” Lang; and parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Lang.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.
