Charlie L. "Butch" Tolbert

August 24, 1949 — March 29, 2019

Funeral services will be Monday, April 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Brother Jackie Strebeck, Brother Matthew Hitt, and Brother Chris Chipley officiating. Burial will be at the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Robert Barham Family Funeral home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Charlie L. “Butch” Tolbert went to be with the Lord, March 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Butch was a people person, who was known around town as “Mr. Nice Guy” and had the gift of gab. He loved life, he loved people and he loved his family. “Papaw Butch” especially loved teaching his children and grandchildren special little songs he learned over the years.

Butch proudly served in the military for twenty-three years. During his service, he was a member of the Air Force Band, and was lead trumpet player and soloist where he demonstrated unlimited potential as a performer. He was considered one of the finest lead trumpet players in the Air Force during the time of his service. On many occasions he was often singled out and applauded for his fine performances by audiences and musicians. Alike. Butch was also a crash-crew firefighter at NAS Meridian, G.V. Sonny Montgomery Air National Guard Base, and Camp Shelby.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of almost twenty-two years, Mary Lee; daughters, Amelia Nowell, Karla Clearman (Tiny), and Faith Bieliauskas; stepdaughter, Casey Fitzgerald (Jason); step-son, Jamie Savell (Tiffany); sisters, Bobbye Swearingen (Sonny) and Sue Branning (Billy); brother, Rusty Tolbert (Jodi); sister-in-law, Linda Tolbert; grandchildren, Justin Nowell, Brittany Farmer (Ronnie), Bailee Helms (Free), Cassie Clearman, Colby Clearman, Austin Bieliauskas, Ackerly Jefcoat, Cayden and Cayla Bailey; step-grandchildren, Andy, Chris and Ellissa Savell; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Leah and Jaxson Farmer and Trace McMillan.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Lewis, Sr., and mother, Frances Johnson, brother, Ricky and step-son, Alex Savell.

Pallbearers will be Justin Nowell, Colby Clearman, Nick Tolbert, Clint Tolbert, Ronnie Farmer and Shawn McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will be Brayden Nowell, Trace McMillan, Austin Bieliauskas, Ackerly Jefcoat, Andy and Chris Savell.

The family would like to thank the V.A. oncology clinic and staff and Southern Care Hospice for their care and support. We would also like to thank each and every one for you outpouring of love, support and prayers for Butch and for us.

The family requests that any donations be made to the V.A. oncology clinic or the American Cancer Society.

His favorite little diddy goes like this:
“When the weather is hot and you can’t find a spot to buy ice cream; it is no sin to take off your skin and dance around in your bones. – OH YEAH”

Visitation will be at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
