Charlie Newton "Newt" Sharp

A memorial service for Mr. Charlie “Newt” Sharp will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home. Reverend John Sweeney will officiate the service. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Sharp, 65, of Meridian passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Sharp, along with his wife and brother, operated McElroy Electrical Company for 34 years, specializing in substation and transmission line construction. He thoroughly enjoyed the construction business, working with his brother, and the lasting friendships they both made along the way.

Newt was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed many years of hunting in Colorado and Wyoming, but his most prized hunt took place in Alaska. It was also a great joy to him guiding others in their quest for that special turkey or buck deer. Many stories were created and many friendships acquired or renewed during the hunting seasons.

Newt was a man of faith willing to share his personal testimony that was the foundation of his strength. He could often be heard repeating the words from his favorite song: “I’m drinking from my saucer, cause my cup has overflowed.” He will be remembered as a loving husband, son, sibling, uncle, Godparent, and friend to those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Dottie Sharp; mother, Betty McElroy Hopper; one brother, Chris Sharp (Debbie); nieces and nephews, Piper Sharp Myers, Canaan Christopher Sharp, Olivia Lauderdale and Magnolia Lauderdale; his godchildren, Kenneth Thomas (Rachel) and their children, Newt, Katie, Houston, and Jane; and his special friend, Kenny Thomas, as well as numerous other friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Herman Sharp, Jr. and his step-father, Ike D. Hopper.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, Mississippi.
