She was well known in the Meridian area as a marketing and communications executive and for her extensive involvement in community affairs and with her church. Cindy's expertise in marketing began early as she worked with her family's business, Southern Publishing Co., which published the second largest quarter horse magazine in the U.S., The Southern Horseman. While there she was Vice President for Sales and Public Relations. For many years she was an account executive with Brown Printing, and at the time of her death, she was the Advertising Sales Director with Blue South Publishing and Legends Magazine. Cindy was very involved in community affairs and was named the Ambassador of the Year for the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. A Leadership Lauderdale graduate, Cindy participated in the "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," and received the Meridian Jaycee's "Mississippi Top Membership Growth Award." The Church of the Mediator was her home away from home. Over the years, Cindy was on the Vestry, was Chairman of the Seeds of Faith Conference, an Evangelism Committee Chairman, Youth Director and annual BBQ Chairman. Statewide, Cindy was on the Board of Directors of Cursillo Movement of Mississippi, serving as Secretariat, 4th Day Chairman and also Rector of Cursillo No. 126. Cindy was also on the Board of Directors of the Meridian Symphony League, serving as treasurer; and was on the Board of Directors and Transportation Chairman for the Mississippi Distinguished Young Women program. Many will remember her radiant smile, her optimistic look on life, her infectious laugh and her strong Christian faith. On the day she died, she was helping a friend whose father was near death. Cindy is preceded in death by her father, Harold "Hal" Thompson; and her brother, Mark Steven "Steve" Thompson. She is survived by her mother, Thelma Gunn Thompson, Meridian; her son, Austin Thomas Aucoin, Meridian; her sisters, Jena Thompson Abrams, Meridian; Tracy Thompson Bourgeois and husband, Jim, Meridian; her brother, Robert Arnold Thompson, Meridian; several aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews; and four great nieces.
