Funeral services for Dan Rigdon will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Chuck Overby, Chris Cooksey, and DeWayne French officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
Mr. Rigdon, age 55, of Odenville, Alabama, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016.
Dan was born and raised in Meridian. He graduated from Meridian High School and held a degree from East Mississippi Community College and a special certification from Harvard University. He had an active career in the railroad industry for 36 years including 17 years with Norfolk Southern Railroad and 19 years with BNSF Railway. He held various positions throughout his career including; Chief Dispatcher, Terminal Manager, Diversity Council Co-chairman, Safety Manager/Train Master, and Operations Manager. The railroad was not only his career, but he enjoyed the people he worked with as his extended family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #268, Hamasa Shriners, and Victory Christian Church in Pell City, Alabama. He enjoyed playing golf and everything about the beach, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson, Luke. Dan was a people person, and was always going above and beyond for those who crossed his path. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Judy Rigdon; daughter, Danielle Winningham (Allen) of Madison; son, Daniel Rigdon II of Meridian; grandson, Luke Winningham; soon expected granddaughter, Lydia Winningham; sister, Glynese Thomas (Tony) of Lauderdale; mother-in-law, Estelle Kellum of Meridian; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ruthie Rigdon and father-in-law, Robert Kellum.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
