David Arthur Yost

Funeral services for Mr. David Arthur Yost will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church; Pastor Steve Koenig will officiate. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at The Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mr. Yost, 86, of Meridian, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson.

David was a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as Naval Aviator. Mr. Yost was a Vietnam veteran, having flown dozens of combat missions and serving aboard the USS Oriskany, the USS Ranger, and the USS Bon Homme Richard. Following his naval service, Dave, as he was known by his friends, trained both Navy and Marine pilots for many years as a civilian flight instructor. Dave graduated from Mississippi College School of Law in 1980. He then practiced in Meridian for 18 years, representing the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and East Mississippi Legal Services Corporation. David was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Military Officers Assoc. of America, Meridian Area Chapter. Mr. Yost’s hobbies included gardening, yard work, puttering, and schmoozing the family pets. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, having faithfully served in various roles since 1971. The City of Meridian honored Mr. Yost by proclaiming December 1, 2011 as “Dave Yost Day” in appreciation of his 60 plus years of service to our country.

Mr. Yost is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet M. Yost; children, Tracey Yost (Eric Jones) and Michael Yost (Gina). Grandchildren, Ashley Lirette (Seth), Katherine Yost, and Jennifer Yost, as well as great-grandchildren; one sister, Anne Marie LePere, three nieces, and extended family.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Anna Yost; and brother, William Yost.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 pm Monday, June 24, 2019 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.
