Dennis Wayne Morgan

Graveside services for Mr. Dennis Wayne Morgan will be held Monday, July 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Toomsuba Cemetery, with Reverend Ben James officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Dennis Wayne Morgan entered the kingdom of Heaven on Friday, July 27, 2018 surrounded by family.   Mr. Morgan passed away at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.  Mr. Morgan was a life-long resident of Toomsuba, Mississippi where he resided with his wife of 60 years, Anna Judson (Judy) Purvis Morgan.  Mr. Morgan was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi on October 13, 1936 to Rev. J. L. Morgan and Dee Phillips Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was a graduate of Dixie Highway School, East Mississippi Junior College, and Mississippi State University.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from MSU in 1959.  After graduating from MSU, he returned home to Toomsuba and joined the family business, Morgan Plant Farm.  The Morgan family expanded the business by opening Morgan’s Horticultural Center in Meridian, Mississippi.

Mr. Morgan was a gifted athlete who played basketball at East Mississippi Junior College where he was inducted into the EMCC Athletic Hall of Fame.  As a father of two sons, Todd and Tim, he stayed active by coaching youth baseball for many years.  He also enjoyed many years watching his sons play sports.  He remained an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed SEC competition.

Mr. Morgan served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Toomsuba Baptist Church. He was also President of the Toomsuba Cemetery Association.   For 23 years, Mr. Morgan served on the Board of Directors at East Mississippi Community College where he was actively involved in the college’s growth. During the 23 years, he held various positions on the EMCC Board of Directors.

Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Philip L. Morgan and sister-in-law, Mildred Allen Morgan.

He is survived by:  Sons, Dennis Todd Morgan (Amber Bruister), Timothy Wayne Morgan (Susan Cumberland); granddaughter McCall Morgan Taylor (Ramsay); Siblings, Rev. Duaine Morgan (Loui), Johnnie Sue Butler (Clarence), Jonell Giroux (Roger), Sydney Morgan (Margie); brother-in-law Guy Purvis, Jr. and sister-in-law, Mary Purvis Gully (Mike).

Visitation with the Morgan family will be held at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be: Wes Goodrich, Wayman Newell, Guy Purvis, III, Tommy Snell, Tommy Swain, and Ramsay Taylor.
