Don Wiggins

A funeral service for Don Wiggins will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with a graveside service to follow at Antioch Southern Methodist Cemetery in Martin, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Don Wiggins, age 75, of Blackwater, passed away February 26, 2024, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Don was born on May 3, 1948, in Meridian, MS. He lived with his grandparents in Kemper County until he was old enough to go to school. He went to Chalk School in Meridian for 1st through 6th grade, Kate Griffin for 7th through 10th grades, and Meridian High, graduating in 1966. Don joined the Army National Guard in 1967 and served for six years. He coached city league baseball for 33 years where he coached both of his sons in World Series from New York to Texas. Don became a fireman for the City of Meridian in 1972 and retired in 1992. He owned a Shell gas station in Collinsville, MS from 1992-1994. He then started driving a school bus and substitute teaching, where he served at West Lauderdale and Clarkdale schools until his second retirement. Don was one of the founders and first Chief of the Martin Volunteer Fire Dept. Don loved the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was a member of Longstreet Masonic Lodge. In recent years he has been a staple at Lamar sporting events supporting his grandchildren and their teams. Many would also remember him as Santa Claus during the Christmas Season.

Don is survived by his sons Tyler (Elizabeth) and Kyle (Brittany) Wiggins. Grandchildren: Dixie Leigh, Kylie (Dillon), Josie, Ty, Delta, Maryl, and Madi. Great grandchild: Calvin. Sisters: Betty Jean and Priscilla.

Don is preceded in death by his Mother Nona Mae, Father Cecil, and Siblings Francis and Joaquin.

Pallbearers will be firefighters from Meridian Fire Department.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home prior to a service in the chapel.
