A private memorial service will be held for Donald Pollard with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Pollard, age 91, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at Aldersgate Retirement Community. Mr. Pollard served in the United States Navy during World War II as a photographer in the Pacific. After his service in the Navy, he established a photography studio, gift shop, and music store in Lake Wales, Florida. He served as an Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Associated Reformed, in Lake Wales. He was also the President of Lake Wales Rotary Club, a member of Masonic Lodge #242, the Lake Wales Hospital Board, and other volunteer organizations. As an avid golfer, one of his fondest memories was playing the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. After retirement, he enjoyed his summers on the golf courses in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and his winters in Spring Hill, Florida. As a lifelong adventuring couple, Don and his wife Bette kept their bags packed for worldwide travels. They have been residents of Aldersgate Retirement Community since 2013 in Meridian, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth "Bette" Pollard; daughters, Linda Bruner and husband, Evans, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and DeeDee Fouts and husband, Tony, of Meridian, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jeb Bruner of Paris, France, Leah Sherman and husband, Ben, of Vilas, North Carolina, and Sarah Beth Fouts of Ridgeland, Mississippi; and great-grandchildren, Duncan and Donovan Sherman of Vilas, North Carolina.
