Doris Welker Services for Donnie Doris Pickard Welker will be held Sunday, August 11, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill UMC, with Brother Jim Rickles and Reverend Richard William officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill UMC Cemetery with a Eastern Star burial.Robert Barham Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Welker, 86, of Meridian died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Welker was born on November 21, 1926, to the late Don Carlos Pickard and Willard Elmo Irby, both of Causeyville area. She attended Causeyville and Long Creek schools. After completing school she worked at a dress shop and Griffis Hair Salon both in Meridian. She was a member of Pleasant Hill UMC in Zero while growing up. She also took correspondence nursing courses out of Chicago, Illinois. While she resided in Ohio she was very involved in the community. She was a member of the Susan B. Anthony Chapter of the Ohio Eastern Stars of Amelia, Ohio for almost sixty years. Mrs. Welker was also a Past Worthy Matron and went through the chairs numerous times. She was President of the PTO and Clerk of the Courts for the Village of Newtonsville, Ohio for almost fifteen years. She was a dispatcher for Wayne Township and Clermont County for fifteen years. Mr. and Mrs. Welker were married September 4, 1943. They met on a blind date at the Triangle Restaurant in Meridian and three months later they were married. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. John Halbrook, and Anderson Hospital, fourth floor, east wing nursing staff especially Chrystal Watkins. The family would also like to thank all the surrounding churches, and community for all their prayers. Survivors include daughter, Sue Welker of Meridian; son, Tom Welker, Jr. and his wife Sue of Fayetteville, Ohio and a special daughter, Bea Heater of Tennessee; grandchildren, Thumper, Olivia, Tony and Craig Welker; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Sophie and Jaxon; brother-in-law, Roy Welker of Newtonsville, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, cousins and four sister-in-laws. Also, a special cousin, who was like a brother Raymond Alec Fountain. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Clyde T. Welker, Sr.; brother, Edgar M. Pickard and daughter, Sharon Ann. The family requests memorials be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, Donate2sch.org or the charity of choice. Pallbearers will be Tony Welker, Craig Welker, Josh Landrum, Wayne Pickard, Wayne Johnson, Arnold Ray Enzor and Larry Fountain. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond A. Fountain, Jerry Tedder, Bobby Davidson, Ricky Robertson, Tim Miller, Mark Riley, Dave McCord, and Ed Beiser. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at robertbarhamffh.com.
