Mrs. Irby was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on March 25, 1930. She married Clement L. Irby on April 1, 1950. During his extended career in the United States Air Force, they had two children and lived in Wyoming, South Carolina, Florida, Texas and Germany. They enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Upon their retirements, they enjoyed 20 years together camping, fishing and spending time with their friends, children and their grandchildren until his death in May 1992. Mrs. Irby moved to Meridian in 1992 to be near her daughter and family. During this time, she was a member of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, and enjoyed attending quilting classes at the Meridian Senior Center for many years. She made enough quilts for her whole family to stay warm for the next 50 years. She made many good friends in Meridian over the last 19 years. Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church members and her Sunday school class were very special to her, giving her love and spiritual guidance through the years, most especially when she was unable to attend services. Her best friend Edna, lived next door for 17 years, and they were always together. They loved going to Church, Walmart, and Taco Bell. Since 2013, they have been together at Poplar Springs Nursing Center, where they lived just down the hall from one another. Mama's Poplar Springs family has a special place in our hearts for the warm, loving care she received from everyone during her stay there. Mrs. Irby also loved embroidery and quilting, cooking and baking cookies, listening to Alan Jackson on her CD player, and enjoyed watching the game shows on television. She also loved to talk about her three granddaughters, five great grandchildren, and another little girl on the way soon.
