Doris Hughes Simmons Services for Doris Hughes Simmons will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Raymon Leake and Reverend David McCubbin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Simmons, 87, formally of Meridian, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Gulfport, MS. Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Meridian High School and Meridian Junior College. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Meridian, where she served as a member of the W.M.U., Round Table Group and Sunday School Teacher. Mrs. Simmons enjoyed reading and traveling. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Victor W. Simmons, formally of Meridian; daughters, Jan Cameron and her husband Drew of Long Beach, MS, Joyce Root and her husband John of Tega Cay, SC; grandchildren, Brent Cameron and his wife Cindy of Gulfport, MS, Scott Cameron and Derek Cameron, both of Long Beach, MS, Regan Hand and her husband Jon of Columbia, SC, John David Root and his wife Savannah of Tega Cay, SC. The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Meridian, general fund. Pallbearers will be members of her family.
