Doris Varnado Services for Doris Varnado will be held Saturday, December 3, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bonita, with Reverend Roy Dabbs officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Varnado, 89, of Meridian died November 30, 2011, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Varnado was a veteran of World War II where she served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corp in the Pacific Theater. After the war she worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and Meridian Regional Hospital where she retired. Mrs. Varnado was a very active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for over fifty-five years. She volunteered for many years with Love's Kitchen and RSVP. She enjoyed many years of painting and art classes at the Senior Center. Survivors include her children Gayle Oliver and her husband Tom of Richmond, Virginia, Michael Varnado of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Vicky Hayes of Meridian and Vaughn Varnado and his wife Kathy of Mooresville, North Carolina; grandchildren Erin Hayes, Will Hayes, Emma Hayes, Kasey Varnado and Isabella Varnado; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 801 Oak Grove Drive, Meridian, Mississippi 39301. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home and thirty minutes prior to the service at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
