Ms. Clayton was born September 5, 1921 to William and Lona Griffin. She grew up in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High School. In June of 1942 she married William E. Clayton of Lauderdale and they made their home in Meridian; raising two sons and helping raise four grandchildren. Mr. Clayton passed away in 1986. MS. Clayton worked at various times in retail, insurance, real estate and as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business. But her first loves were her church, her home and family and her flowers.

She was a member of the Garden Study Club, served as its president, and was active in its programs and flower shows. Ms. Clayton studied for several years to become a master judge and won numerous top show prizes for her arrangements. She loved to craft and decorate, often employing her skills for church events. Beloved “Mammaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining family in her home.

Survivors include sons, William E. Clayton, Jr. (Jan), Tom Clayton (Peggy); grandchildren, Sean Clayton (Erica), Jason Clayton (Danielle), Adam Clayton (Brenda); great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nolan, Madelyn, Liam, Averie, Logan, Connor, and Delilah Clayton. One Sister, Beulah G Copeland as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Clayton is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Clayton, Sr.; parents William and Lona Griffin; siblings, Faye Green, Tera Yinson, and Ed Griffin. Granddaughter, Brandy Clayton.
