Dorothy Pigott Garrett

Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Dorothy Pigott Garrett will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Lauderdale, with Rev. David Etter and Rev. Rick Pigott officiating. Interment will follow at Lockhart Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Garrett, age 84, of Toomsuba passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Ochsner Rush Hospital.

Dorothy was born in Meridian, Mississippi on October 6, 1940 to Walter “Mike” and Ora D. Pigott. She attended Meridian High School, but graduated from Lauderdale High School in 1958. She met and married the love of her life, Houston Garrett, in 1957 after about a month long courtship, and to their union, two sons were born. She worked for many years for Rush Medical Group in Administration with Susan Stegall and many other friends. She was a Christian and a charter member of Lauderdale First Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities. She loved fishing, playing Skip-Bo (and did not like to lose!), and Christmas lights.

She is survived by her loving husband, Houston Garrett; sons, Mike Garrett (Teresa) and Rodney Garrett (Tracey); grandchildren, Megan Reynolds (Jimmy), Matt Garrett (Kasey), Katie Bishop (Zac), and Dylan Garrett; great-grandchildren, Branson Reynolds, Justin Bynum, Garrett Reynolds, Henry Garrett, and Charlie Garrett; and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, R.O. Johnson; and her siblings, Poochie Pigott (first wife: Claire and second wife: Margie) and Jo Nell Bullock (Fred).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made payable to Matt or Kasey Garrett to help contribute to Mrs. Garrett’s great-grandson’s heart transplant in care of First Baptist Church of Lauderdale. Pallbearers will be Shane Adams, Dale Collins, Matt Garrett, Dylan Garrett, Jimmy Reynolds, Dr. Ryan Ward, Branson Reynolds, and Kenny Irby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Garrett Reynolds, Justin Bynum, Henry Garrett, and Charlie Garrett.

The family will receive guests from 11:00 until 11:45 prior to services at the church.
