Services for Dorothy Majors Smith will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Reverend Jeremy Stewart officiating. Burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, age 95, of Meridian passed away on May 1, 2019 at Bedford Care Center in Newton, MS. She was a woman of strong faith and devotion and was an active member of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church her entire adult life.
Dot, as she liked to be called, joined the staff of Anderson Hospital as an LPN in 1969. She later continued her education at Meridian Junior College and received her Registered Nurse certification in 1975. Coincidently, she and her youngest son, Bobby, were in the same graduating class. She had duties in several departments at Anderson’s, including Cardiac and Critical Care. She gave loving care to patients and their families for twenty years.
Survivors include her sister, Daisy Van Dyke Millard of Flowood, MS; daughter, Betty Neal and her husband Howard, of Niceville, FL; daughter, Kay Tennent of Boise, ID; son, Bobby Smith and his wife Sherry, of Decatur, MS; daughter-in-law, Faye Smith, of Meridian; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents A.D. and Ingrid Majors, her husband, W.J. Smith, Jr., her son, Billy Smith, and her grandson, Ricky Dick.
Dot was dearly loved by her family, friends and neighbors. Her kind, charitable nature will be missed.
Pallbearers include Mark Covington, Mack Keenum, Ebb Fox, Phillip Price, Russell Crouch, and Gavin Spence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
