January 22, 1923 — January 28, 2021

Graveside services for Dorothy Stanfield Trunzler will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Lakewood South Cemetery, Jackson, MS, with Rev. Ben McClain officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Dorothy Stanfield Trunzler, affectionately called Dotty, lived in Meridian, MS but had been a long-time resident of Jackson passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Northe Pointe Health Services in Meridian.  She was a member of Northpointe Presbyterian Church.

Dotty was born on January 22, 1923 in New Orleans, LA to Louise Thomsen Stanfield and William August Stanfield.  She graduated from Berman and Soule Business College in New Orleans.  During WWII she worked as a secretary with the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C.  She also worked for the Mississippi State Board of Health for 21 years retiring in 1985.

Dotty married James (Chum) Trunzler in New Orleans in 1942.  In 1950, they relocated to Columbus, MS to raise a family that eventually consisted of five children on a beautiful dairy farm, Green Pastures.  In 1959 they moved to Jackson.  Dotty’s greatest joy was knowing that her five children were believers.  She was a prayer warrior and continued to encourage family and friends with calls, notes, and visits.  She was selfless, gracious, and tireless in her work for the kingdom.

She and her husband, Chum, loved to serve others and share their faith in Christ.  They were involved in the Gideons for 50 years, both served in jail ministries, taught Bible classes at the Mississippi School for the Blind and organized Good News Clubs in Jackson.  Dotty taught kindergarten Sunday school until she was 85 years of age.

Dotty never met a stranger.  Even though her house was modest, she invited church visitors, college students, seminarians, and missionaries regularly into her home for meals.  She gave of her time to take visitors on tours of Jackson.

Dotty’s heart was dedicated to missions.  She was instrumental in planning yearly mission conferences at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Jackson and helped other churches throughout the south with their mission programs for children.

Even during the difficult times in her life, Dotty found her strength and sufficiency in her Savior.  She is remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a Proverbs 31 woman who exemplified the Godly woman.

Dotty is predeceased by her husband, Joseph James Trunzler, brother William Stanfield, Sister Louise Wynne, son-in-law Mike Sartelle, and grandchildren Anna Laurin Collins and Nathaniel Sartelle.  She is survived by a thoroughly prayed-for and grateful family of five children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and nephews.

Her children are James Trunzler of Crystal Springs, Diane Carroll (William) of Yazoo City, Mary Collins (Lowery) of Carrolton, GA, Martha Greenwood (Malcolm) of Franklin, TN, and Faith Vaughn (Cary) of Meridian.
