Mr. Douglas Harold Jones, 69, of Meridian passed away on Saturday, December 14th, at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Doug was born on July 3, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thomas Jones. He grew up in the Suqualena community. Doug was an only child to Mr. Harold and Mrs. Elaine Jones. He attended the Suqualena United Methodist Church with his family. Doug graduated from Lamar Academy in 1973. After high school, he attended Meridian Community College, and he later furthered his education at Mississippi State University (MSU). There he studied Civil Engineering. During his time at MSU, Doug started dating the love of his life, Ms. Janet Foreman. This love grew, and Doug proposed to his one and only true soulmate. Their love and devotion to each other has lasted through good and hard times.

Doug worked many jobs throughout his life. He drove a truck for Miller Transport at the beginning of his career as well as serving as a technician for Colonial Pipeline. However, this absence and distance didn’t affect his relationship and love for his loving wife. Later in their journey, Doug and Janet were blessed with their only son Douglas Leon Jones, Buck. The years of hard jobs and work came and went. As life’s needs changed, Doug decided to start his own business. Over time his business grew and was successful. From 1996 to present day his small family business is still thriving. All of his success is attributed to his hard work ethic and devotion to his family. Through the years his family grew, his son Buck Jones met his beloved wife Leslie Renee Cooley. After many years by God’s favor, Buck and Leslie conceived a son Jase Thomas Jones. This boy was Doug’s only grandchild. Jase was his pride and joy. Doug and his grandson had many common loves and character traits. Both love mathematics and are truly mechanically gifted. Doug, Pop Pop, as he was known to Jase, instilled his love for John Deere equipment, his love for operating equipment, his curiosity on how things work, and his interest in the why and function of all things electrical. Doug took time to teach Jase about many mechanical elements of equipment, instruments, as well as tools. He also always encouraged his explorative nature. Pop Pop was the first person to purchase Jase a John Deere tractor. The joy of this gift was evident in everyone’s eyes that Jase was going to be a John Deere man for life like his Pop Pop! Through the years, his family faced times of joy, peace, and blessings from God.

Even in the hard seasons with little work, Doug would say that work will come, and when it finally does, “We just got to get up earlier and work a little later.” His generation's drive to work was like no other. He was old school in his ways of life. He took care of his family. He loved by providing for their needs. His little family business was his dream. Doug’s employees include: His wife, Boss Lady; his son, Son; his daughter-in-law, Baby Girl; and him, Doug Jones, the heart of the family company. Doug Jones and Son Construction Company will continue to operate on his behalf. During his last years, he continued to lead and guide behind the scenes. He did all he could do to assist and to help his son run the company. Doug also never lost sight of his faithful Lord. He leaned on Him throughout his difficult years and hard days. Through his illness, he stayed constant and devoted to his family. He loved seeing and knowing his family was happy and healthy.

Doug is survived by his wife, Janet F. Jones; Buck Jones (Leslie); his grandson, Jase Jones; his aunt, Carolyn Cumberland (Norman) of Meridian; a host of cousins; as well as an abundance of close, dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elaine Jones; and numerous family members, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
