Dr. L N Rhodes, Jr. age 90, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Baptist Anderson Regional Hospital.

Dr. L.N. Rhodes, Jr., was born in Collinsville, MS (a place where he would meet his wife and would always return) on April 8, 1934.  As his father, L.N., Sr., was an educator, teacher, and school principal, his family had the opportunity to live in several counties in the state, including Greene, Clark, George, and Lauderdale.  His three older sisters, Jarie, Marie, and Juanice, were always looking out for L.N.   In the notes left by his father, there was frequent mention of fishing and hunting wherever they lived.  He particularly enjoyed living in Agricola and fishing on the Pascagoula River.  L.N. was an avid fisherman, but more on that later.  He graduated from Beulah Hubbard High School in 1952, lettering in basketball.  He developed his own accelerated program to get all the credits necessary to enter the College of Dentistry at Emory University in only three years, first attending Mississippi Junior College and then the University of Southern Mississippi, receiving an award for physics along the way.  He began practicing dentistry at the age of 25 in Meridian.  He was an outstanding dentist, who had his own practice and served the Meridian community for nearly 50 years.

It was upon returning to Meridian and Collinsville that he met again the love of his life and friend from the age of four, Charlotte Snowden.  They raised three children, Larry, Cecelia, and David, all of whom attended Mississippi State University.  His parents had also returned to Collinsville and had a farm, where L.N.’s children enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing, and feeding the cows.  L.N. loved Meridian and had many great friends. He was a devoted member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church for 60 years. He loved golfing at Northwood with his son David and son-in-law Drew.  L.N. and his wife traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states (mostly by car with the kids in tow) as well as Japan, Europe, Russia, and the Caribbean.  Next to Charlotte, his greatest loves were fishing and his cabin on the Tombigbee River.  The “Triad of Crappie Slayers” (L.N., Judge Warner, and Dr. Price) went fishing every Thursday.  They made a plaque with the number of fish they had caught in one particular (and not uncommon) year, numbering over 3,000!   They also chose benevolently to give most of their catch away rather than clean them.  L.N. taught his grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, and Jason to fish and waterski at the river.  He loved hunting, but he never got that prized buck to put on the wall of the cabin next to his giant turkey and bass.  He will be remembered as a gentle man who respected and served all and loved his long and wonderful life with his wife Charlotte.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Charlotte Snowden Rhodes; children, Larry Rhodes (Naomi) and Cecelia Demboski (Drew); grandchildren, Jason Rhodes and Matthew Demboski (Zoe); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his, son, David Rhodes; grandson, Andrew Demboski.

parents, L N and Effie Rhodes; siblings, Jarie, Marie, and Juanice.

Pallbearers will be Larry Rhodes, Drew Demboski, Matthew Demboski, Jason Rhodes, and Timmy Harrison.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Medlin, Jim Bass, Richard James, and Irvin Martin.
