Dudley Moss Maples

Funeral services for Mr. Dudley M. Maples will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, with Dr. John Temple officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Born at Tiger Branch in the Broome Community of southwestern George County, MS.  He passed away at his home in Meridian, MS early on the morning of January 30th, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Helen Sabra Bond Maples, son Phillip McRae Maples, parents; Florian Seal and Mackie Vee Mixon Maples, sisters; Mary Virginia and Nona Vee, brothers; Winston Seal, Francis Gerald, Darwin McRae, Percy Maples, and Guy Talmadge, and daughter-in-law; Dannie Ellen Maples.

He is survived by two siblings—one brother, Florian Jr, and one sister, Jo Lee Norman; his eldest son Michael Maples; daughter Deborah Maples Hay (Dwayne); and daughter-in-law Peg Wahrendorf; and grandchildren -- Mary Ellen Stancill (Jeff), Nathan Maples (Rachel), Brock Maples (Lora), Emily Maples (Joe Sebatier), Dylan Maples, Lindsay Buono (Brandon), and Mason Williams, one step grandson, Ryan Hay and 12 great grandchildren.

Dudley attended the University of Southern Mississippi and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was the owner of Maples Gas Company, which he established in 1964.

The family is forever indebted to caregivers Mattie Williams, and Barbara Finley who also lovingly cared for Helen Maples.  Special thanks to the office crew who did “The Day Shift” at Maples Gas.  They have definitely earned their halos and wings.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a 4H group of your choice, or any agriculture related endeavor. To further honor Dudley’s memory, he would urge all to “Go to Work and Take Care of Your Family”.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at the funeral home prior to funeral services.
