A time of celebration for the life of Dwight Sledge will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., at Florence Community Center, 437 South Church Street Florence, MS 39073. During that time, friends and family are invited to share their favorite memory or story of Dwight.
Mr. Sledge, age 65, formerly of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away December 10 at his residence in Bailey, Mississippi.
Dwight retired as Executive Director of United Blood Services of MS/LA. The Mayor of Meridian declared July 13, 2010 as Dwight Sledge Day in honor of his 30+ years of service to the patients of MS/LA. Dwight was an avid hunter and golfer and was a member of the Saint Pierre Golf Association and Good Ole Boys Hunting Club. Above all else, his greatest joy in life was watching over his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his extended family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Paula Carter Sledge; children, Pam Sledge (Pres) Dawkins, Joshua Paul Sledge, and Ashley Sledge (Sean) Connolly; granddaughters, Alex Dawkins, Corey Dawkins, and Carter Connolly; great-grandson, Spencer Jefcoat; sisters, Charlene Sledge Turnage, Cheryl Randall (Terry) Tucker, and Tina Sledge (Troy) Smith; brothers, John Lewis (Debbie) Sledge, Keith Randall and Kenny Randall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Glyn and Ethelene Randall and father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sledge.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Voss and his staff at Meridian Oncology.
Dwight loved animals, so in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to Sweet Paws Rescue, PO Box 752 Essex, MA 01929, or the charity of your choice.
Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at robertbarhamffh.com.
