Elaine Lawrence Byrd Funeral services for Elaine Lawrence Byrd will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Blair and Dr. Greg Massey officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Byrd, age 90, of Meridian, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at her home. After graduating from Meridian High School, Mrs. Byrd went to work for Gower Printing Service. She worked at the U.S. Post Office and she rose to the position of Director of Employee and Labor Relations. She was the treasurer of the Pilot Club of Meridian for many years. She was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church, formerly known as South Side Baptist Church. She was very active in the church, serving as teacher and director of several Sunday school classes, member of the board of directors, and active in the Women On Mission group. She also served on the board of directors for the Wesley House. The family wishes to thank the special caregivers for the compassionate care they gave Elaine during her illness. She is survived by her loving brother, Elbert E. Lawrence (Phyllis) of Columbus, MS; nieces, Barbara Potts (Mike) of Rome, GA and Martha Thompson (James) of Del Mar, CA; nephew, William F. Lawrence of Panama City, FL; great nieces, Courtney and Kendall of Rome, GA; and other great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Byrd; daughter, Claire Byrd; and parents, Elbert Foster and Edna Lawrence. Pallbearers will be Pete Bertrand, Tommy George, Bruce Gipson, James Jenkins, Danny Palmer, and Jerry Pope.
