Mrs. Bette Pollard, age 91, of Merididian passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Aldersgate Retirement Community.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Evans) Bruner of Blowing Rock, North Carolina and DeeDee (Tony) Fouts of Meridian, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jeb Bruner of Paris, France, Leah (Ben) Sherman of Vilas, North Carolina, and Sarah Beth Fouts of Ridgeland, Mississippi; great-grandchildren, Duncan and Donovan Sherman of Vilas, North Carolina; and sister, Joyce Murley Wright of Tampa, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Don Pollard.
Bette was born and raised in Greenfield, Massachusetts, and relocated to Lake Wales, Florida in 1954. She was actively involved in community activities and organizations throughout the 50 years they resided in the Lake Wales community.
Her love of people and her bubbling enthusiasm brightened every room she entered. As a gifted public speaker, Bette could entertain and amuse with interesting stories of her travels throughout the world. Her pride in the Girl Scouts organization was reflected in 1962 when she was selected by the National Girl Scouts to spend six months as a goodwill ambassador from the United States to the Country of Korea.
The Pollards spent their retirement years in golfing communities in Spring Hill, Florida, and Linville Land Harbor, North Carolina. Her “hole-in-one” sits beside her husband’s as a treasured memento of her golfing adventures.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date. Memorials may be made to Aldersgate Retirement Community, 6600 Poplar Springs Drive, Meridian, MS 39305 or the charity of your choice.
