Elizabeth Ross Gunn

Margaret Elizabeth Ross Gunn departed this life on March 21, 2016 in Madison, MS.   Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in Meridian, MS. A service celebrating her life will be held at the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. on March 23, with Reverend James Ruffin presiding, and with burial at Magnolia Cemetery following the service.

She was born on January 28, 1922 in Kemper County, Mississippi and attended Meridian High School. After graduating from Mississippi State College for Women, she worked as a home economist before devoting the remainder of her life to being a wife, mother, and homemaker.   She married William J. Gunn on December 8, 1951, and they began a life together that spanned 49 years and included three sons.  Elizabeth was totally devoted to her husband and her family, and her devotion was reflected in her many acts of encouragement, her life of service and sacrifice, and her kind, loving and generous spirit.  She loved people and enjoyed her time with her many friends.   She was a longtime member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church.  She had a strong faith in God and in Jesus Christ as her Savior, and that faith sustained her throughout all she encountered in life.  She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William J. Gunn, her son, William Ross Gunn, and her brother, James Edwin Ross. She is survived by her sons Ed Gunn (Jennie) and Doug Gunn (Jackie); her brother Bill Ross (Anita Jo); six grandchildren:  Josh Gunn (Susan), John Gunn, Carroll Ann Huebner (Travis), Melissa Gunn, Mary Margaret Gunn, and Molly Gunn; three great grandchildren;  niece Melinda Lestyan (Steve); nephew Jim Ross (Cindy); as well as cousins and other family members.

The family wishes to express its thanks to Willie Robinson for her kind and compassionate care of Elizabeth in her last years.
