Ellen Marie McGrew

A funeral service for Ms. Ellen "Marie" McGrew will be held Friday, June 12 at 10:00 AM at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Brother Kyle Crenshaw officiating. A committal service will follow at Pleasant Hill Community Church Cemetery on Zero Road. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 11 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Ms. Ellen "Marie" McGrew, 69 of Meridian, MS passed away at Lakeview Hospital in Covington, LA on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Marie was born in San Antonio, TX on August 9, 1956 to Ellen and Allen "chief" Hodges. She grew up in Collinsville, MS.

Marie was known as "Mamaw Re" to everyone! She is known for LOVING her Blessed Girl shirts! She will also be remembered for her love for others, her kindness, her smile, her spirit, and her baking! She LOVED making pecan pies and fried apple pies for events, holidays, and class reunions. She LOVED her Tupperware (Ms. Helen Johnson) and the BINGO crew. Marie loved doing cross stitch early on making many beautiful things. She LOVED hanging out with her adopted class of 1963 Meridian High School!l.

Marie absolutely LOVED and adored the LORD! She LOVED her daughter Christy, her grandkids Kodee, Baleigh and Daniel, and her great granddaughter Callie Jo!

Marie started her career out as a bookkeeper at a jewelry store in Meridian, MS. She worked for Riley's Hospital and RGIS Inventory and in the later years she retired from Magnolia Steel after 30+ years of service.

Marie is survived by her loving daughter, Christy Johnson Marshall; grandchildren, Kodee Conner (Destinie), Baleigh Conner (Connor), and Daniel Conner, Dylan and Braxton McGrew; great-granddaughter, Callie Jo Conner; brother, William Hodges of Philadelphia, MS; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, James B. McGrew, Sr.;her parents, Ellen and Allen "chief" Hodges; sister, Sherry (Chip) Hines; nephew, Kevin Bradford; and sister-in-law, Debbie Hodges.
