Elton Wayne Smith Graveside services for Elton Wayne Smith will be held Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, with Reverend Paul Trosper officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Kemper County with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith, age 88, of Meridian passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at his residence. He was born on November 18, 1925 in Meridian. Mr. Smith graduated from Meridian High School, Meridian Community College and Hinds Community College. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1943 to 1945 in the 3rd Marine Air Wing in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from the federal government and was a draftsman and cost estimator. He drew house plans for many family and friends and building plans for local churches. Mr. Smith was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church where he was a member of the Harvesters class. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Holland White Smith; son, Major Richard Wayne Smith, U.S. Army (Ret.); daughter, Dr. Diana Smith Barrett and husband Dr. Bruce Barrett; sister-in-law, Jenoise White; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lewis Smith and Phila Bunyard Smith; brothers, Lewis Orea Smith, William Aubrey Smith and Austin O. Smith; sister, Audette Smith Pogue.
