Elzene P. Bell Services for Elzene Bell will be held Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Strong Hope Baptist Church, with Reverend Billy Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Strong Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home, Meridian, MS in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bell, 97, of Vicksburg passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at Poplar Springs Nursing Home. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Vicksburg, MS. Mrs. Bell was a Sunday school teacher and former choir member. She was a member of the Ash Meade chapter of the Daughters of American Revolutions. She was a member of Kappa Delta Phi and served on numerous accreditation committees for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Mrs. Bell served on the Mississippi History Advisory Board for the State Department of Education. She was the founder of the Elzene Bell Social Studies Scholarship Fund and was on the Advisory Committee of the Vicksburg Historical Society. Mrs. Bell was the head of the History Department at Warren Central High School. Mrs. Bell was an accomplished pianist and played for her Church at Immanuel Baptism Church in Vicksburg. She was a former history teacher at Jett High School and Warren Central High School. As her former students recalled, she was fun, firm and fair. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Chambers, and her husband Joe; grandchildren, Kim Moore and her husband, Dr. Todd Moore, John Chambers and Chuck Chambers; great-grandchildren, Ava and Graham Moore, Brittany Chambers and Christian Chambers; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Flossie and John Ponder; husband, Louis Bell; and sister, Irene Whitlock. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund. Pallbearers will be her Grandsons and Nephews.
