Memorial Graveside services for Ernest Vinson Hagwood will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mississippi Veteran Cemetery, with Chaplin Frank Hagwood officiating, with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hagwood, age 89, of Causeyville passed away December 18, 2016 at Rush Hospital.
Vinson was a sharecropper before being drafted into the Army on November 9, 1945. He served as a cook in Okinawa, Japan. He was combat wounded in a hand to hand bayonet fight, he was also a cook in the 418th Night Hawk Fighter Squadron. Vinson went over to Japan on the “Marine Fox” and he came back on the “General H.F. Hodges”. When he came home he married Dessa Lee White and had a daughter and two sons. Soon after he went to work for Hardins bakery for 30 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Jean Boles; sons, Moody Daniel Haguewood, and Franklin Dallas Hagwood.
The family requests memorials be made to the Mississippi Veteran Cemetery in Newton, Mississippi.
