Ernest "Vern" Reid

Funeral services for Ernest Lavern “Vern” Reid will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Hamrick Cemetery in Collinsville. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with arrangements.

Mr. Reid, age 79, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Vern was born December 27, 1939 in Kemper County. He married the love of his life in 1960, Mrs. Glenda Reid. He retired as the maintenance supervisor at Delco Remy. He enjoyed spending time camping and travelling and loved to be with his family. Vern and Glenda served for several years as the campground host in different states at various national parks. He was a loving husband, father, grand and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Carpenter Reid; his children, Lisa Reid Scarbrough (Jeff), Lori Reid Wimberly (Bud), Rhonda Lynn Burt, and Michael Eric Reid (Lauren); brother, Joe Reid (Ann); five grandchildren, Meagan Clearman (Ben), Richie Bailey (Alesha), Heather Lewis (Skyler), Justin Scarbrough (Marilyn), Nicholas Reid, and Baby Reid on the way; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Truhitt Lamar Reid and Jessie Lee Strange Reid; three brothers, Russell Reid, Lamar Reid, and Alvin Reid; two sisters, Annie Kate Maggard and Weida Gregory; and a great-granddaughter, Jamee Grace Scarbrough.

Pall bearers will be Bud Wimberly, Richie Bailey, Justin Scarbrough, Jeff Scarbrough, Nicholas Reid, and Skyler Lewis. Honorary pall bearers will be Ben Clearman, Jackson Clearman, and Ross Clearman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be shared with the American Heart Association.

The family will receive friends on from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday, May 18 at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home.
