Funeral services for Nita Hickman will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with Pastors AD Lewis and Jerome Roberts officiating. The burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden.

Ms. Hickman, age 44, of Jackson, passed away July 28, 2016, at her home.

Nita was born and raised in Meridian. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Holmes Community College and a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Ashford University of Business Administration. She moved to Jackson February 2003 when she was employed at Nissan North American, Inc. in Canton, Mississippi. Nita was a strong, independent woman, diligently committed to her family. The strength she maintained during the most difficult time of her life was an inspiration to all who were blessed enough to know her.  Her beautiful smile, which reflected the light in her eyes, will be deeply missed.

Nita is survived by her husband, Cedrick Mitchell; daughter, Ashley R. Hickman-Hudson and son, Cordarian S. Grace, of Jackson; brothers, Ameen (Johnny Ray Jones) Aadil and wife, Sharon, of Nashville, Tennessee, Dwight A. Williams and Jacques Hickman, of Meridian, and Delray Box of Flint, Michigan; sisters, Sylvia Jones Anderson and Brenda Lee, both of Houston, Texas, Netra Howard, Julia Marshall, NeLisa Hickman and Sharon Hickman,  of Meridian; Geneva Mitchell, mother-in-law, of Alabama, as well as numerous nieces, nephew and other family members and friends, and her beloved dog, Marty.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby L. Hickman, her brother, LaDarrell G. Hickman, and nephew, Randy L. Hickman.

Pallbearers will be Jack Hornsby, Marko Mitchell, LaCedric Williams, Jr., Alicia (Lee) Hudson, Alex Hickman, and Ry’Shun Watts.

Honorary pallbearers are her brothers, Ameen Aadil, Dwight A. Williams, Jacques Hickman, and nephew, LaCedric Williams, Sr.
