Funeral services for Evangline Barnette will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home with Brother Lin Chesney and Brother Buford Usery officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Barnette, age 86, of Meridian passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at her home.

“Van” as she was known to her many friends was a lifelong resident of Meridian and a member of Faith Baptist Church. Her greatest love was her family and “Poncho” her constant companion. She was a hairdresser and worked many years at Burnley Shirt Factory. Among her favorite pastimes was working in her yard, quilting, and most of all cooking for her family. She was a great cook!

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Williams and Cathy Knight and husband, Jerry; grandson, Colby Williams; step-son, John M. Hodge and wife, Lucy; step-granddaughter, Olivia Hodge Harris and husband, Justin and their children, Cooper, Anna-Lucia, and Alexis; step-grandson, Greg Hodge and wife, Ashley and their children, John Mason, Mary Peyton, and Cambell; sister, Lois Smith; brother, Lee Otis Arledge and wife, Lucille; step-grandson, Brandon Knight and wife, Brianna and their daughter, Teagan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis M. Barnette; parents, Mack and Leslie Arledge; brothers, Lavern Arledge, Jimmy Arledge, and Pete Arledge; and sisters, Doris Alston, Ruby Scarbrough, Lora Shepard, Luna Burke, and Mamie Hughes.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Burke, Danny Scarbrough, Richard Oliver, Gary Lingerfelt, Willie Ray Arledge, and Daniel Wayne Arledge.
